03What a signing agent does

We notarize. Your lender explains the loan.

A notary signing agent is not a lender, loan officer, title officer or attorney. We can show you where each page is signed, dated or initialed, and we notarize the signatures that need it. We cannot explain loan terms, rates or fees, or advise you on whether to sign.

Questions about the loan go to your lender or title company before the appointment, so the signing is not delayed.

Remote online notarization is available for real estate documents only when your lender or title company accepts it. Ask them first.

04Bring to the signing

What every signer needs.

  • A current government-issued photo ID in the name on the documents
  • Every person who has to sign, present at the appointment
  • Any checks, forms or extra ID the lender asked for
  • Your reading glasses and time to read before you sign

05FAQ

Loan signing questions.

Can you explain my loan documents?

No. A notary signing agent can show you where to sign, date and initial, but cannot explain loan terms, rates or fees or tell you whether to sign. Those questions go to your lender, title company or attorney.

Who sends the loan documents?

Your lender, title company or escrow company. Tell us who is handling your closing when you book, and we coordinate the documents and the return with them.

Can you come in the evening or on a weekend?

Often, yes. We are open 24 hours, 7 days a week, and evening and weekend times depend on notary availability and your location.

What ID do I need?

A current government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport, in the same name as on the documents. Your lender may ask for more.
